Baliguda: Panic gripped residents of Ward number-1 of Badagaon village of Baliguda in Odisha’s Kandhamal district following reports of a tiger roaming around in the area a week ago.

According to sources, a Punp house worker spotted the tiger roaming around the river banks near the pump house of Badagaon. He said that he heard an unusual sound while going to turn on the pump. So, he turned on his phone flashlight to check and got scared after noticing the tiger. He later informed the Forest Department about the tiger.

On the instructions of Baliguda DFO, 2 teams led by Forester in-charge, Satya Narayan Mohanty, have arrived at the said place the tiger was spotted and are conducting patrolling in the area all night. The team has identified the footprints of the tiger. However, the forest department officials said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the footprints are not that of a tiger. The forest department has alerted the local people after the preliminary investigation revealed that it was a hyena’s footprints.

Delhi murder: Hookah party, Sidhu Moosewala in Sahil's last Instagram post

Sahil, the accused in the brutal killing of a 16-year-old girl in northwest Delhi's Shahbad Dairy area on Sunday evening, can be seen smoking hookah and listening to Punjabi songs in his last Instagram post shared on April 14.

The description of his Instagram account, under the name Sahil Khan, reads, “love you dark life... daru lover... Yaaron ki yari... sab per Bhari... 5 July... Love you mom.”

In the last post, a group of boys can be seen dancing and smoking a hookah, with 'Selfmade' song by late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala being played in the background.

Incidentally, May 29 was Moosewala's first death anniversary. The famous Punjabi rap singer was shot dead by assailants in Jawaharke village of Punjab's Mansa district last year. The incident took place a day after his security was withdrawn by the Punjab Police among 424 others.

In the oldest post available on Sahi's Instagram account, there is a story highlight from a year ago that has him offering condolences on the death of Moosewala. "Rip Paaji", Sahil in the post.

Brutal murder caught on CCTV camera

Sahil brutally killed the 16-year-old girl by stabbing her over 20 times and bludgeoning her to death with a cement slab.

A preliminary probe into the murder has revealed that the youth was enraged by his break up with the victim and was further infuriated with the fight the two had, triggering him to launch the fatal assault, police said on Monday. Police arrested Sahil from Bulandshahr after a call from his aunt to his father was traced to his location to the Uttar Pradesh district, they said.

A nearly 90-second video of the incident that was shared online showed the accused pinning the victim to a wall with one hand and stabbing her repeatedly. He did not stop even when the girl slumped to the ground, jabbing the knife into her over 20 times, kicking her and then slamming a cement slab on her repeatedly.

In a shocking display of public apathy, people can be seen passing by, with some bystanders staring in alarm, but not doing anything to stop the brutal attack.

Delhi govt vs Centre: Congress to take call on backing AAP after talking to allies, state units

NEW DELHI: Amid AAP's efforts to mobilise opposition parties against Modi government's ordinance to neutralise the Supreme Court verdict that gave the Delhi government control over the capital city's bureaucracy, Congress on Monday reiterated its support for the court judgment, but stopped short of spelling out its stance in favour of the Arvind Kejriwal-led party. It said the party will consult like-minded allies and state units before making a decision.
AICC general secretary KC Venugopal tweeted: "Congress has not taken any decision on the issue of the ordinance. It will consult its state units and other like-minded parties on the same. The party believes in the rule of law and, at the same time, does not condone unnecessary confrontation, political witch-hunt and campaigns based on lies against political opponents by any political party." The remark appeared to suggest an open mind on backing AAP, but also sounded critical of its actions.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh said, "This is the time of agnipariksha (trial by fire)... Congress will have to decide if it stands with democracy, the Indian federal structure, or stands against it."

If Congress is playing hard ball, it tallies with the sentiment of the party rank and file, which is opposed to siding with AAP. The point has been made by Delhi Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Sandeep Dikshit in recent days, which explains the announcement about "consulting state units". Crucially, the issue figured in the deliberations between Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, with Rahul Gandhi also present, on Monday.

Oppn talks of a united front go beyond ordinance issue
The in-office NDA does not have a majority in the Upper House and would be dependent on assistance from YRSCP and BJD for the passage of the legislation in the monsoon session.
The NDA currently has a strength of 110 in Rajya Sabha and it can add a couple of more by filling the two vacancies of nominated members. Even then, it will still be eight short of the majority mark in the House with an effective strength of 238.

AICC spokesman Anand Sharma said, "Congress had welcomed the SC judgment delivered last week. Our stand remains the same, that the SC decision was correct." He called it a strange contradiction that the government first brought an ordinance but is also filing a review petition in the court.
The opposition talks of a united front go beyond the ordinance issue. Congress said it will announce in a day or two the plan for a meeting of the heads of like-minded parties to take forward the issue of a united front for 2024 elections. Earlier, Kumar had hinted that he would convene the meeting in Patna. This was second meeting between Kumar and Kharge-Rahul in last two months.

"The country will be united now. The strengthening of democracy is our message. Rahul Gandhi and I discussed the current political situation with Bihar CM today and took forward the process of giving a new direction to the country," Kharge tweeted.
In the discussions, Kumar pushed for early convening of the conclave to take advantage of the current momentum, and sources said it may happen before Rahul Gandhi's departure for the US for a political outreach programme.
AAP's hopes of getting the ordinance rejected in the Upper House are critically dependent on Congress, which has 31 MPs.

While Congress nurses strong resentment against Kejriwal for tarring it as corrupt, AAP has pitched the issue as one with consequence for federalism.
"This is the time of agnipariksha (trial by fire). What is BJP doing? It is saying that first I will get you arrested through CBI, ED, and then bring an ordinance if there is a decision in your favour. Congress will have to decide if it stands with democracy, the Indian federal structure or stands against it. Until an official statement from Congress, I cannot say anything on their stand," AAP MP Sanjay Singh said.

Virat Kohli among first batch of India players to leave for WTC Final in wee hours of May 23

By Press Trust of India: Virat Kohli will be among the first batch of India players to leave for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in London, departing in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate Mohammad Siraj will also board the same flight, a day after their team was knocked out of the IPL. Spinners R Ashwin and Axar Patel, and all-rounder Shardul Thakur, will also be on the flight as well as the team's support staff led by Rahul Dravid.

The two other players who complete the first list of seven cricketers are Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Umesh Yadav and Lucknow Super Giants' Jaydev Unadkat, who is recovering from a shoulder injury. The final will be played at the Oval from June 7-11.

"There will be two or three departures in total. The first batch leaves at 4.30 am tomorrow," said a BCCI source.

The seven players, who will stay back in India for the IPL playoffs, include skipper Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Mohammad Shami, K S Bharat and Ajinkya Rahane. Cheteshwar Pujara is already playing county cricket in England and will link up with the squad in London.

It must be mentioned that India won't play any warm-up game as the English County Championship is on and also this being an ICC event, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is under no obligation to arrange practice matches for the visiting team.
TRENDING TOPICS

"Also if we play against a select county XI, it will comprise mostly second team or development squad players, as first team players are not released during the championship. Playing against a weak opposition doesn't help in quality practice," a BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

While the majority of the Indian team players are going into the title clash after two months of IPL, only three WTC-bound Australians played in the richest T20 league.

Last week, the great Ricky Ponting said the Aussies will be mentally better prepared for the final but the Indians will have valuable game time behind them.

"There are two ways to look at this. For someone like Virat, is he better off playing now and scoring runs at a consistent basis and have confidence going into a game rather than the Australians back home who haven't been playing much cricket but will be mentally better prepared," Ponting had said. India, who finished runners-up in 2021, will be aiming to win their first ICC trophy in 10 years.
